It’s officially Autumn when you start digging through your closet to unearth your favorite sweater. And if you’re in North Carolina like me, you’ll probably only wear it for 2 hours before it feels like Summer again! Just like it’s time to pull on an extra layer to stay warm, we need to add on those extra layers of moisture and hydration. Making seasonal changes to skincare routines is essential to maintain a happy complexion. While the needs of every skin type are different, these simple rules of thumb can help upgrade any routine for a colder and dryer season.
First rule of thumb--Level up products!
Whatever moisturizer you are using right now, level it up to something richer. For example, if you use a body oil, try indulging in a body butter. The richer feel of the butter means it absorbs slower and creates a longer lasting barrier on your skin to help trap moisture. If you’re using a lightweight or water-based lotion, upgrade to a body oil. It’s the same principle.
Second rule of thumb--Wear an extra layer!
If you have a simple 2 step routine where you cleanse then moisturize, you need to apply a fast absorbing moisturizer in between. Try adding facial oil, a moisturizing toner, or serum. Make sure to give it a few minutes to absorb into your skin before putting your regular moisturizer on to seal it. This step ensures your skin has a little extra hydration to get it through the next chilly day or super dry office.
Third rule of thumb--Renewal!
All those rich products and hydration are meant to protect the skin and keep it from becoming dry and flaky. Sometimes this process traps the dead skin and dirt in place, and you need a little help to remove it—that’s when exfoliating sugar scrubs and clay-based face masks come into play!
Body and face scrubs help slough away the dead skin and invigorate as they do; increasing circulation, evening out texture, and kickstarting the renewal process so your skin is ready to drink in whatever you put on it next. At this point, you could put on your regular body oil or moisturizer and bask in your own glow for the night, but why not give your face a little extra love? This is the perfect and most effective time to apply our Renewal Night Cream! Daylight savings? I don’t know her - cuz you’re the sun now, baby!
Depending on your skin needs, you may only need to do a Renewal step 1 to 3 nights a week, but no more than that, as you’ll interrupt the healing process and may compromise your skin barrier instead. This happens a lot when people discover a scrub or mask they love; they love the feeling of fresh skin and the glow after, but end up over-exfoliating by doing it too often without realizing that exfoliation is just half of the renewal process, the other half is healing time!
Whatever skincare routine changes you decide to go for this season, just remember, consistency is key! We all have those days when our hormones are off, stress is high, or we’re pulling all-nighters; but that is not an excuse to ignore your body and its biggest organ. Don’t give up on your skin, be kind to it, and it will love you back! Happy Fall!
A few months ago, we held our first styled photoshoot. The goal was to have professional images to revamp our website and spruce up our social media pages. By now, you’ve probably seen those dreamy face mask pictures and envisioned yourself using our scrumptious sugar scrubs. We wanted to share some images and details from behind the scenes of our inaugural shoot.
As you know, Earth-Kissed Beauty is a small business that’s woman and minority owned. We believe in collaboration and community and sought to utilize vendors with similar structures and missions as us. We are proud to share that each vendor we used for our shoot was minority-owned or woman-owned!
Major thanks to our shoot coordinator, Keys Events, LLC; photographer, Megan Morales Photography; makeup artist, Mena Garcia Beauty; clothing stylist, Flourish Market; venue, Leslie-Alford-Mims House.
We used a friend and local bloggers as our models. Be sure to check out Shabby Chic + Cheap and The Coffee Table.
Kristin, owner of Earth-Kissed Beauty, hardly wears makeup and was excited to be dolled up. Mena did a phenomenal job with enhancing Kristin’s natural beauty and making her feel comfortable with a full face of makeup (hello lashes!). The Flourish Market generously provided the clothing for the shoot. How cute is Kristin’s top?
Our vision for this shoot was a Girls Night In: a fun home spa experience with your girlfriends. Monique with Keys Events understood every piece of our dream and made it a reality. Megan, our photographer understood our vision and captured key shots of our products and was able to highlight our models’ personalities during their shoot.
The Flourish Market also provided the tops for our models; it nicely tied in with our Girls Night In theme!
We were able to utilize several areas of the historic Mims House including the beautiful heart wall and en suite.
Our mission at Earth-Kissed Beauty is to make clean skincare available to everyone. We sought to emphasize that with Kristin’s shoot. Megan captured Kristin’s natural, down-to-Earth style and her love of crafting these amazing skincare products.
Overall, our styled shoot was a huge success. Laughter was ringing throughout the venue and smiles were genuine.
We look forward to our next shoot! Do you have any guesses on what our next theme will be? Share in the comments below!

We live in a world where society feeds on buzzwords and hot topics. "Toxic" was the 2018 Word of the Year, and phrases like "vegan skincare" and "green beauty" are thrown around like confetti. While these words and phrases are catchy, they certainly hold more meaning than being the hashtag for a social media blogger's 30th selfie of the week.
Let's break down the hype behind clean skincare. In the United States, there is the Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act that enforces regulations on what food, cosmetic and personal care companies can and cannot use in their products. The law was enacted in 1938, before the rise of plastics and chemical industries became the standard for creating and preserving foods and personal care products.
The law has yet to be updated, and has given large liberties to personal care companies in manufacturing their products. It's why you see sodium laurel sulfate, EDTA, propylene glycol, and methylparaben listed as ingredients in a simple face cleanser. Numerous research studies have shown these chemicals to be related to many adverse health reactions such as skin irritation, hormone disruption and imbalance, and cancer.
Despite the numerous studies, the law has not been updated to provide a standard amongst the personal care industry to protect their consumers. Conversely, large brand companies have altered their product labeling to highlight "natural" and "plant derived" ingredients, but upon reading the label, these ingredients that are plant derived are chemically extracted, thus removing all natural benefits and are added to the existing chemical-filled products.
Clean skincare is a movement to provide personal care products made without ingredients known to cause harm to consumers. Clean skincare and beauty brands will not include harsh chemicals, synthetic fillers and dyes and aim to be environmentally friendly.
Earth-Kissed Beauty's entire line of products are clean, safe, and cruelty free. There are zero chemicals, synthetic fragrances, or preservatives in our products. Each product is made with natural and organic botanicals--ingredients you can name (shea butter, jojoba oil, hibiscus flower, frankincense essential oil). Our products are environmentally friendly and are placed in recyclable PET containers or glass. We wanted to change the narrative and give consumers peace of mind with shopping personal care products.
We are on a mission to provide clean, safe skincare to everyone. Shop our line of clean skincare and get ready to love your earth-kissed skin.
